11/23/08   4     3     4     1   I was prescribed the 10mg OC's for a while. They are USELESS. I used to take 10mg of OxyIR 4x a day, then switched to OC 10mg 2x a day with 5mg of OxyIR a day. The 10mg sucks, even the brand name (the Teva brand ones are total garbage). If I had a choice between taking 20mg of Oxycontin twice a day or 10mg of OxyIR 4x a day. I would take the IR. Screw prescribing someone 40mg of OC 3x a day, just give them 30mg of OxyIR to take 4x a day. Plus the price is obscene compared to OxyIR. 120 OxyIR 30mg would cost roughly $120-$150, 90 Oxycontin 40mg would cost around $400, even though both are the same exact amount of oxycodone.  :|

6/23/08   1     1     1     1   If I could give this drug a zero in every category I would. I have been involved with someone who has taken this drug for years, I know it's just a matter of time before he dies from this drug. He has not only destroyed his own life but has turned mine upside down due to his terrible behavior. I am no longer with him of course but he is still a friend of sorts. I hate this drug and it should be taken off the market. You need to realize that people become immune to this drug like any other drug and soon they don't work. These kind of drugs end up shutting down all your bodies own pain fighting mechanisms and then you have nothing fighting the pain. I would rather die from the pain then to let people I care about deal with the horrible person I would become from taking this drug. I am so angry with the Dr's, drug companies and the people who take these pills, WAKE UP & QUIT DESTROYING EVERYONE AROUND YOU!!!  :(

5/13/08   4     3     5     5   Resulting froma multitude of back/neck surgeries, I've been on any/every pain med available. For the past fiur (4) years I've taken 480mg (80mg x 6 tabs) daily in conjuction with Soma and ambien to sleep. The OC, although not perfect has given me back a life. My current problem, however is tolerence. My doctors are reluctant to prescribe anymore even though I've been on the same dose for over three (3) years. I respect my physicians but am now experiencing great pain between maximum dosage schedules. CAN ANYONE OFFER A VIABLE APPROACH AND/OR SUGGESTION.I WOULD BE GRATEFUL! THANK YOU , IN ADVANCE: GARY in Buffalo NY  :)

8/20/07   4     1     3     4   First time was fine, took 10mg then an hour later took another 10mg. I had a slight buzz but ended up getting very itchy! a few days later I took 20mg then an hour later another 10mg. Again nice buzz, but itchy, started feeling nauseas and really sleepy. I want to go to sleep but heard if you go to sleep you wont wake up so trying really hard to stay away. Takes the pain away almost perfectly though.  :|

6/27/07   5     4     5     5   The best pain relief medication I could have hoped for. I had a serious knee injury and couldn't walk for over a year. After my first knee surgery, when T3s didn't even touch the pain, I was prescribed demerol - which just made me sleepy. All in all after 4 surgeries, I was on percocet and oxycontin for over a year to handle the pain. When my knee was finally getting better and it was time to stop, my dosage decreased and within two months, I stoped taking oxycontin. Never had any addiction problems with it. I still have some left over for the break through pain but have only used those twice in a year.  :)

6/1/07   5     5     1     1   Had cancer 4 years ago along with major surgery and chemo, radiation. I would like to say that before the cancer I was very anti-pain pill. I had pescriptions before for lortab or percocet that I would not even get filled. Cancer can be painful, I started taking percocet because I absolutely had to. They quit being effective so I was prescribed oxycontin. Oh what a relief. I felt wonderful. That is until I became addicted to them. Absolutely could not put them down. Lied to the doctor about pain to keep getting prescribed. Would run out before the 30 day supply and be in absolute hell. Even tried heroine which would calm the withdraws. Could never imagined myself in this position. Finally went to treatment center and was prescribed suboxone which is excellent. No oxy withdraw at all. I know some people need this drug and I can sympathise. However if you have a choice please do not take these for a long period of time. Before you know it they will consume your mind with no easy way out.  :|

3/29/07   5     5     5     1   I posted in here before. But I am posting again because very soon there will be no more generic oxycontin brand available which means that 90 20mg pills will go up from around $100 to around $700 which is completely unreasonable for ANYBODY'S budget. I just got my script filled and they said all the generics were bought out by TEVA. So I filled with those pills which costed about $220 (over $100 more than I usually spend). I tried them and they do not work nearly as effective and they make me sick. I call the pharmacy to try to get the brand name and they say it will be about $700 and I need a new prescription from my doctor. I call my doc and I tell him i'll bring in my old pills and dump them in the trash at his office in exchange for a new prescription and he won't do it most likely because of strict government drug laws. At my next doc visit i'll be discussing switching to an alternative drug. This is just insane how they are creating a monopoly like this!  :)

3/21/07   5     1     5     5   Excellent pain relief (above knee amputation, much trauma, phantom pain). Careful of falling dependant. Worst constipation in my 60 years. Happy I am now off this drug.  :)

3/16/07   3     4     5     3   I was rx'd this for RSD, fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain and other conditions. It was okay. I did not feel energetic at all on this, and I actually was really tired most of the time. The only reason I was switched was that it just wasn't giving me sufficient pain relief to function. I have talked with some people who have excellent results with oxycontin, and continue to take it for years, with high effectiveness. I will say that the relief did not seem to just drop off, but pretty much was consistent from one dose to the next. I never felt "high" on this drug. I did have trouble sleeping, but that was because I wasn't getting sufficient relief from my pain. I did experience more headaches than is normal for me at the start of treatment, but those faded within a few weeks. I also experienced some nausea and mild constipation, but I took cascara [cascara sagrada, OTC herbal supplement] with my doctor's approval, and it took care of the constipation.  :)

2/26/07   4     2     4     5   It is great stuff and had no problems untill the Doctor said I should cut the 40 mg in half. That is when the problems started?? The best buzz I have ever had but now I just want more and more and always crush them now.  :)

2/24/07   5     3     4     4   It works awesome, but does build a tolerance. Be careful. I have RA and it seems to take more and more. I feel unmotivated when stop taking. Very effective though. I think it is safer than handfuls of anti-inflammatory, and you can actually get a little exercise.  :)

12/20/06   5     5     5     5   This is the best pain medicine I have used. I have had morphine, vicodin, ultram, demerol and various non-narcotics but this is the most convenient and effective. I have chronic neck and back pain and this is the only medicine that allows me to continue working as a tradesman.  :)

9/5/06   5     4     5     5   I have chronic pain and have been on numerous narcotic pain relievers, this medication however seemed the most addiction because it gave a sort of dreamy high that was quite enjoyable, if someone has previous addictive behaviors it probably would not be a good medication to take unless clearly needed  :)

8/30/06   5     5     5     5   Oxycontin when used properly is highly effective for long term pain management. I took them for 3 years before I was switched to a Duragesic patch for better pain control. They don't last QUITE 12 hours, and I am on them again since my surgery but I will be weaning off of them soon--I had a 4 level spine fusion and I am much better. I take 1 40 mg Oxcontin 3 times a day and they are highly effective--I do have some breakthrough pain but I have Demerol for that.  :)

7/5/06   5     1     5     5   This is one of the strongest pain pills ever made. I have taking various kinds of pain killers over the years and this one is a strong pill, that people should know what their tolerance is before taking them. They are really small but are super strong and they are really addictive. If you take this pill everyday for more than 2 months then you will have a huge addiction. You will get sick from not having some kind of opiate to take. They give you the best buzz ever but you can bet you will regret taking them if you get hooked. No one is safe from this. I am now on methadone because I could not quite these pills, everyone I know that takes these have to get on methadone so they can not be sick so they can work, sleep, anything period, If yopu can take them and take them maybe once every two weeks then you might have a chance of not getting addicted. I don't know one person that has tried them and quit. Buzz is awesome, but getting addicted is worse than hell.  :)

11/30/05   5     2     5     3   I used this medication for ~ 1.5 years before switching to avinza, and found that I was needing more frequent dosing to achieve pain control. I have now been on the same dose of avinza for over a year. Even worse, the pain would suddenly return with a vengeance and I would be "flattened" until the next dose worked if I neglected to take the next dose nearly as soon as my pain began to return. This does not happen with avinza as the pain slowly returns so there is more even control. Also, there is a euphoric effect and a mental "low" effect with each oxycontin dose that does not disappear despite long term use. I felt that I was becoming more and more dependent upon this narcotic. This has not happened w/ avinza.  :)
