I've been on this pill for 2 and a half years and the longer I'm on it the worse it gets. I have absolutly NO libido and more moody and irritable. I get my periods the same since I started it, which usually starts the last day or two of the "period" week of the pill packs. I'm less and less impressed with this pill, and I will be switching very soon. |

I liked mircette. It didn't make me gain weight (but i was anorexic at the time, so yeah) and it helped with cramps. I had random spotting every once in a while, but this birth control worked great for me. I'm on lutera now, and love this one so far as well. I would recommend lutera if you need something cheap and good. Mircette is a little expensive. |

I was on Yaz for 2 years and absolutely loved it- no side effects whatsoever. Out of the blue, I began getting my period every other week, so my doctor switched me to Kariva. While I haven't had weight gain per se, for the third week through starting a new pack, I get horribly bloated, terrible PMS (sad, cramps, general fatigue). I get my period the third week for 3-4 days, then it stops for 2 days, and then I get it again during the placebo week for 4-5 days. SO UNFAIR. Everybody is different, so I wouldn't say not to try it if you were prescribed Kariva, but pay attention to how your body reacts, and realize that there are better pills out there! I've been on it for 5 months and switching at the end of this pack- very excited. |

the 1st week headaches everyday but after that everything return to normal. Made my period longer the first 3 months. Now they are finally lighter and little cramping. I've LOST 8 lbs and it's cleared my skin dramatically. No other bad side effects. |

Uhh! I've been switching birth control pills for almost 2 yrs now. Dr. put me on Kariva saying that it had less estrogen for the weight gain. It will be 2 mo. since I have been on Kariva and my **** are killing me now for 2 weeks straight. I am bloated all the time and my moods are awful! I don't know what to do because my boyfriend really hates condoms. But I am so sick of what the pill does to me and my body. I feel like I'm just one of those girls who reacts badly to any pill and is stuck with many unpleasant side effects. Fat thights, stomach and hips are the worst! No matter what I do as far as excercize and healthy eating - the water retention just stays the same. Also, my skin will break out horribly if I go off. It's a catch 22. Bad skin and skinny again with a miserable boyfriend, or nice skin and a fat miserable broad? |

I've been on Mircette for about two weeks now and I've been bleeding the whole time. I do not like this pill at all and do not wish to keep taking it. I've always had a regular cycle and this continuous bleeding is very annoying. Ortho tri cyclen was the best BCP I've ever taken. |

I started taking mircette because it was supposed to be a lower dose hormone. My boyfriend came home and after seeing him for the first time in five months, I soon began to feel the side-effects that were described by other women: I had been taking a medicine for a month and he had been home 4 days when we noticed a significant drop in libedo and he noticed I was getting upset more easily. Physically, I was confused when I started having cramps, and have recently suffered nausea and all-over itchy-ness. The worst part is that I still feel like I'm gaining weight-- the whole reason I started Mircette was to avoid birth controls which would put back on the extra pounds I have worked so hard to drop =(. My boyfriend says to tell you that he needs sex, so I'm dropping Mircette and Kavira. |

I have been on the Kariva for a while and have been having more menstrual migraines, heavier periods, and more fatigue, depression, and feeling out of sorts during the month. On a whim I tried the brand name (Mircette) last month. I could tell a difference in that I overall felt better (more energy,no depression, etc) and I noticed that my period was lighter and did not get a menstual migraine. I was told by a pharmacist that some people might be more sensitive to the generic forms of oral contraceptives and could have more side effects. Even with insurance the Mircette cost more than the Kariva but I am willing to spend the extra money to feel better. |

After being on other BCPs for over 10 years, I switched to Mircette (and then the generic Kariva) because my doc told me it was low dose, etc. Two years later, I was in the ICU with a pulmonary embolism resulting from a blood clot in my leg. Understand this: a pulmonary embolism can kill you by preventing your body from getting oxygen and it's not as rare as you might think. I attribute this directly to this pill - I had NO other contributing factors. I would recommend avoiding this and other desogestrel BCPs. There are plenty of other options and no reason to choose this one over another. |

Before i tried Karica i had used 4 other BCPs and none of them worked. I had extremely bad periods. Not only where they heavy but they where more than once a month too. I started using Kariva and the periods became lighter and i had only one a month. But also i gained twenty pounds and it caused a reaction with my depression pills and made me go a bit "crazy". It also caused migraines for the first month. all of this went away but now almost a year after starting the pill, i have this "thing"(kinda bruise/rash looking) on my leg. The doc said he thinks its a rare disease caused by BCPs. But other than that Kariva is great. Also i was sexually active while on the pill and no pregnancy. and the pill is all i used. |

Like many of you, I was on Mircette first and switched to the generic Kariva. I still take it. Im 22, been sexually active x 4 years, no other back up, no baby yet! I also am getting my RN and work at an OB/GYN...all of your concerns are VeRy common. I hear them every day. OCPs are kind of a trail-and-error drug. Some pills with certain levels of estrogens/progestins will work for some and won't work for others. They can clear up acne and pms for some, and make worse for others. Give yourself about 3 months for your body to adjust when trying out an new pill. There are so many different ocps out there as well as other methods like the Nuva Ring, IUD, Depo-inj, Implanon, and the ortho evra patch...Kariva has been absolutely fine for me, no significant weight gain, great libido, hardly ever any break-through bleeding, no pms problems or cramping.Just b/c a pill works for one or had horrible side effects with one person doesnt mean it will you. Its all about finding what works for you! |

I couldn't continue this due to the terrible, hammer bashing in my head, migraines. It did seem calming, but it also made me feel weak and drained. It was like I had to will myself to get up and get a move on! Not bad, but I couldn't live with the hammering all the time. |

I was on mircette for 6 months and then got switched to the generic form :kariva. I gained a little bit of weight on the mircette, and a new bra size. When I switched to the kariva, things only got worse. I went from a pant size 4 to a size 8, and my **** are still getting bigger. It just never stops. My libido is down and I get very moody 1 week prior to my period as well as during. I really hate this pill. |

Very effective. Had sex on a regular basis without condoms and I don't have a baby! When I first started taking it, I broke out a little bit, but then all of my acne went away and my skin looked great!! I tried both and I prefer the Mircette over the Kariva. The Kariva changed the shape of my eye (apparently a common BC side effect) so I had to get my contacts refitted. I'm sad to have to switch to another Pill, but Mircette is jus a little bit out of my price range. |

Mircette is great but the generic is not for me. My insurance company will send it to me in error sometimes so I try it. I have nine day HEAVY periods, severe cramps, gas, bloating, PMS, and lots more nasty side effects when I take Kariva. None of this happens when I take Mircette. |

I had 7-10 day long periods and a 5 week cycle; I didn't like going to a 4week cycle and same length peroids. The side effects were that I felt like I was "on something", meaning that I wasn't myself. My name is Jen; Dh called me Jen-ette, because it changed my behavior/personality soooo much! He said he'd rather have me b****y and brooding than grinning and seeming fake. It's not cheap either, but my dr gave me several free samples. |

I had very few side effects. Before this i tried alesse, tri-levlen, tricylen lo and tricylen and could not handle any of them. the only side effects i had with mircette (and the generic kariva which seemed exactly the same) were headache before my period and loss of libido (though that is questionable), and sometimes i felt a little more moody. but it reduced cramps and did not make me nauseous at all (on tricyclen i would wake up and have to puke several times a night). no weight gain, acne, or anything else. |

I loved Mircette! This was actually the third type of BCP that I've tried and I loved it. The first two caused mood swings and weight gain, but Mircette did not. I just started using Lutera and I'm really worried about the possible side effects. |

This pill worked great originally for 1 year then I think my body changed and I started having my period a lot longer(once for like 3 weeks) than normal and I started getting night sweats. I was terrible. I changed to Alesse. |

I could not go past one month with this pill. I had leg pains, flu-like symptoms, acid reflux and bloating, depression in the 3rd week, constant belching, excessive salivation, and slight left side pains. Good product, but just not for my body. It was too awful to wait out 3 or 4 months. I faired bettter with Cyclessa (25 mcg of desogestrel in a triphasic regimen) compared to Mircette (20mcg of desogestrel in a monophasic regimen). |
